Wed 9/5 Introduction to the vocabulary, goals, and expectations of the course.
Mon 9/10 First assignment. Bring the addresses (URLs) of a successful site (a good looking, navigable site) and an unsuccessful site (a site that is unpleasant to look at and browse). Be preparted to discuss why you think each of these sites qualfies for a thumbs up or a thumbs down.
NOTE: As this is a course that focuses on media, choose sites that use images, sounds, video, interactive media, or some combination of these. If you cannot attend this class, email this assignment to me at dave@handofdave.com
Wed 9/12 Basic file operations (create new files, saving files, reopening, using proper file names and suffixes, creating backups, using Mac OSX, etc.
Mon 9/17 Essential HTML rules and conventions: Site structure, naming files, creating page links
Laying the foundation for your media content with CSS, frames, tables, and layers.
Wed 9/19 Constructing a basic website, embedding images. Class exercises.
Mon 9/24 Photoshop part one. Understanding dpi, color depth, scaling, and image compression.
Wed 9/26 Photoshop part two. Creating custom buttons, rollover graphics
Mon 10/1 Photoshop part three. Advanced compositing
Wed 10/3 Photoshop part four. Creating image maps, slices

Wed 10/10 Assembling a small site using custom graphics. Class exercises.

Wed 10/17 Mid-Semester Exam
Download the files for use in this exam (images and text). Use them to recreate the site shown up on the big screen (note: resizing and cropping will be required on most of them... be sure to design your site to an appropriate width and height for a standard 1024 by 768 monitor resolution).
You may alter font/color choices, but use your judgement to maintain appropriate styling for the subject matter, and stick to the layout shown. You may use your notes, internet help, reference past assignments you've completed, etc... but no talking will be allowed during the test.
IMPORTANT: Please name your root folder like this: MIDTERM-(your name).
When you've completed the test, leave your computer running WITH YOUR ROOT FOLDER IN PLAIN SIGHT on your screen. I will be collecting your work on my flash drive for review and grading.
Grades will be available Fri 10/21 at noon
thru your online HCC account.

Wed 10/24 Submit design layouts (mockups) for final project. Brainstorming session.
